Toys and Action Figures

Since Wednesday, we've been enjoying the company of our wonderful 14 year old niece, Hailey.  She flew into town for the long weekend before she heads back to New Jersey and begins her freshman year in high school!  Hailey is a talented artist and loves comic book art in particular.  So this evening we hopped in the van and took an hour and a half drive south of Oklahoma City to visit The Toy and Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley.  We had never been there before, but had heard great things about it, and it did not disappoint!  We arrived and drove down the cobblestone lined streets of downtown Pauls Valley, and found this gem of a museum wedged in between an old bus station and a furniture store. 

We walked in and instantly feasted our eyes on this enormous diorama of every toy and action figure you could ever imagine.  There were little scenarios set up across a bedroom floor.  There was Godzilla destroying a city with Voltron looking on.  The Millennium Falcon was flying by The Iron Giant.  And G.I. Joe and Barbie were cruising through the fray in a hot pink corvette while a large Ventriloquist Pee Wee Herman looked on.  Mike said if he were a little boy, he didn't think he would have the self control not to just dive in and start playing.

After our eyes were done bugging out over the cool diorama (I said it again!), we headed over to the dress-up and play area.  There were tons of dress-up clothes for both children and adults!  So we all dove in and played for awhile.  It got a little out of control.

After a long session of dress-up, we all toured the rest of the museum which included areas dedicated to toys and actions figures of The Old West, The Armed Forces, Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, and Batman.  There was a cool, two-part display showcasing the different action figures of DC and Marvel Comics which I thought was very informative since I never know which hero belongs to which.  Overall, it was a lot of fun to take it all in and let loose your inner child.

We'll have to come back again one day!
